So... I missed the 2nd year anniversary of Random Pancakes, just like how I missed the 1st year too... And I havent updated in like 2 months either. As much as Id like to say Ill do better Im simply not going to say it. Ill tell you right now, Random Pancakes is officially over. Im not making it anymore. Thats the very short explanation. If youd like to continue reading, Im going to go into my brief history of sprite comics, If not then by all means stop reading this now. Thanks for sticking around for 2 years; I hope you liked the comic. Otherwise, stick around for a little bit and learn about my spriting-ness
Ive been drawing since I was a little kid, and when I couldnt make a nice looking drawn comic, I resorted to sprite comics. I first made Sonic and Tails: Sega Plasmos* in September of 2005. That was my first Sprite Comic ever. I cant remember exactly how long I made it for (I Think maybe a year or so) until I stopped. I hosted it on Piczo (a photo sharing website not meant for comics). Updating on it two times a week was pretty hard, and annoying. Coding and shit for Piczo is by no means simple. I had at least 25 comics made in advance ready for updates on that comic, and I didnt have my own a PC at that time ( I used my aunts crappy Windows 95 PC in secret), so any comic I had made was saved to my USB. An interesting note also is I also had no Internet access when I first began the comic. I ripped each sprite from a Gens emulator I had. A funny thing is, I had no idea at that time that so many people made sprite comics. The concept (to me) seemed new and different. I was very wrong. Anyway, That USB was stolen, and I was forced to re-make every comic again, and that just killed it for me. If theres just one little thing that happens, that kills the experience of something for me, I no longer find any pleasure in doing it. An example would be when my friend accidentally saved over my Twilight Princess file (with his own file). I wasnt that far into the game, but it still took me a while to do everything I had done. I didnt want to play anymore, so for over a month I didnt. My other friend later made a new file and got up to the exact same part for me, but I still didnt feel like playing it. I got Zelda at the Wii launch waaaay back in 2006, and I still havent finished it. But thats off topic now.
So S and T: SP ran for a little bit, I guess it had a few fans (I made it to the top of a few Sonic top sites, and 8th on Top Web Comics for about 30 minutes no idea how that happened). It was around the same time that I decided to end the comic that I found Smack Jeeves. I decided to upload my other comic at the time, Black Ninja**, to the site. I didnt keep it on there for long, as I was new to html coding and I didnt like the default setting that SJ has for comics. One night, I decide to make a random Kirby vs. Bowser comic. I like dhow it turned out, but I couldnt put it in the S and T: SP archive, it wouldnt fit in (this was a couple of weeks before I ended SP). I decided to make a new Comic. I knew it was going to be random, and I just so happened to be eating Pancakes at the time the name seemed to be just right.
That was on June 19th 2006. My fan base began to increase slowly, and my skills with Photoshop (I had used MS Paint for all previous comics) began to grow too. So Random Pancakes was here, and I loved making them. I was on school holidays at the time I first started to make the comic, so I made a few in advance. Eventually, I fell behind with it, and even though I didnt have an actual updating schedule, I guess I did miss a few updates.
It was a little while after that Kaz and I began to make Chaos Cntrl*** (pronounce CONTROL for all of you are didnt know it not that its hard to understand, but anyway ). It was also hosted on Piczo**** because we liked being able to custom set the way the site looked. Eventually, it was moved to SJ too. So for about 10 months all was well with both comics, but eventually updates became scarce. I didnt update RP for nearly 2 months at one time, and the comics I did make werent that great, so its not like the wait was totally worth it. Making CC comics was hard also. Making a comic with your best friend sure does sound like a fun and good idea, but the reality of how hard it is to agree with each other sets in soon after the first few comics.
During my time on Smack Jeeves, Ive had quite a few comics. In late 2006 I started to re-make the old SP comics. I made the first 2 comics as they were originally, but started a new storyline at the third comic. I made a total of 5 comics before I deleted it. I then joined Stephen Ruane (Of Sonic the Hedgehog*****) in his comic called A Video Game Comic******. I only update it myself 2 times in like 5 months. That comic was deleted once, but we remade it a few months ago, still hardly updating though.
School has also played a big part in preventing me from updating my comics. In the past few months, any updates I have made on my comics are on ChaosMushrooms******* (a drawn comic that I started in January of this year) and mainly because I was able to use the comics as part of my Studio Arts course. I mentioned earlier that drawing is a very big part of my life, and I do prefer drawing my comics rather than spriting them, even though it is harder and takes a lot longer.
Anyway Having noticed that I havent updated in so long, and that I missed another anniversary, Im taking this is the realisation that Im the one whos killed it for me. I had planned to do something special for last year, and it was yesterday that I thought Ill update RP again with a 2nd year anniversary comic! I then realised I had missed it. The way I see it is, I have no time to sprite, and even when I do Id much prefer to either not sprite, or draw. Spriting, to me, will always be fun and in a way special I just dont want to do it for now.
So thats why Im ending it. If I cant miss any updates if I dont have the actual comic to update. You may be asking Well, whats gonna happen with CC? Well, you may know that Kaz has recently been banned, so updating is kinda annoying now. I always put off making new CC comics anyway, as spriting started to lose its charm for me a few months ago. Im not going to end it though, so consider Chaos Cntrl on Hiatus until further notice. I will make a few A Video Game Comics for Ru every now and then, but they wont be much. I will still continue to update ChaosMushrooms, which I hope all of my RP fans will start to read instead of RP.
Im sorry if this has disappointed anyone, Im sure no one will really mind, but all the same Please note that I will never, ever make another Random Pancakes comic ever again. I may seem melodramatic with this, but I think I should stick to something for once. Im not saying that Ill never sprite again, but I am saying is it wont be much, and not for a long time either. So anyway
Thanks for reading guys; I had fun while it lasted :P
